What if the IRS hasn't processed our 2019 return yet?

Trying to e-file for 2020 but the IRS hasn't processed our 2019 paper return

The IRS shut down processing anything on paper for several months due to COVID.  Tyr efiling your 2020 return using 0 (zero) for the 2019 AGI.

I'm in the same boat. Did making your AGI zero allow you to e-file?

I actually called and an agent told me to check the box, right before filing, that says I didn’t file my 2019 return. Because at this point there is no record. Basically all this question was trying to do is verify my identity. So then I just had to put in my DL #. It was filed and accepted, so all is well.

Remember COVID?  The IRS was shut down for several months, so no mail of any type was even being opened.

The Internal Revenue Service said in mid-February that it had yet to process 6.7 million individual income tax returns for 2019, based on data through Jan. 30.

They had to have opened my mailed-in tax return because they cashed the check that was in the envelope.
