W2 data does not match 1040

The Federal Tax Withholding on line #16 on my 2018 1040 return does not match the amount in box #2 on my W2. I pulled the W2 data into the return electronically. Why does this amount not match?

Did you get any 1099 with withholding?  Like a 1099R?  Or make any estimated payments that should be on line 17?  After you import your forms you needed to check your return to make sure it imported right.  Import or taking a picture of the W2 is not foolproof.  It could come over wrong.  Or your employer could make  the import file wrong.

Also check your tax return to see if it includes Form 8959 with an amount on line 24 that is treated as income tax withholding.

I figured it out!  Go into print and push print out ALL forms of your return (even if you're not done0 BUT DON'T PRINT IT.  Push preview instead.  You will see all the forms.  We discovered that it is an overpayment on your W2 of Medicare which they are adding to your tax payments!  Even Turbotax did not know about this!!!

Not following you.  Do you mean you paid in excess social security from W2 box 5?  There is no max for Medicare in box 6.

Check 1040 schedule 3 line 11 for it. Which goes to 1040 line 18d.

If you look through all the forms, you will see the Form 8959 which will match your amount that you are off exactly.  Its a credit from your Medicare taxes that they withheld on your W2 that goes towards your tax payments.
