Use amended return

I used TurboTax software to file my 2015 & 2016 taxes which were both filed and accepted. I found an issue with 2015 for which I used TurboTax to file amended 2015 return.  That 2015 change requires me to also amend the 2016 return.  I'm using TurboTax to amend my 2016 return but I don't find any option to have it read 2015 data and I don't feel confident to find the proper places to enter any needed changes.  How can I amend the 2016 return and have it transfer the data from the 2015 amended return?

Sorry you can not transfer your new 2015 amended data.  You have to start with the original 2016 return you filed and manually enter the changes.

Did you download the FREE  amendment software ?   Of did you buy the 2016 downloaded version ?

I'm using the 2016 TurboTax Premier for Windows software.  I used "amend this return" from within TurboTax Premier.  This is the first I've heard of the "FREE amendment software".

I've become dependent on TurboTax to know where data belongs. I'm shocked and disappointed to find out that there is no way for TurboTax to amend a return by reading the previous year's amended return.

Well if your 2016 return was already filed and accepted you have to start the amended return with the originally accepted return.  Each year is separate.

The only way to transfer into the next year is to start a brand new return.  You can only transfer from the prior year at the very beginning before you start a new return.  But you are not doing a new return, you are correcting one.
