If you are using TurboTax Desktop, please make sure your program is updated.  This can be done by logging into your desktop product.  Select Online in the menu on the top, and then select Check for Updates.

Once you have done that, follow the steps in the following guides for options to help you print.  On the 2nd link, there is an option of printing to mail your tax return.  You can select to save as a pdf after previewing your tax return.  This may resolve the issue and allow you to see the entire tax return.

How do I fix issues while printing my return?

How do I file my return by mail?

I have a desktop iMac printing to an HP Office Jet Pro 9010 series printer.   I can not print my return, or even just an open page.  My TurboTax program says it is up to date.  My iMac uses Ventura 13.6.9.  I want to file electronically, but I can't print any pages to review.   Can you help, please?

This issue was reported to our programmers and they are working on a resolution, which is now expected by the end of this week.

In the meantime, some users have been able to successfully print to PDF and then print outside of the program. I have a Mac and was able to print to PDF.

Thank you, MonikaK1.  I was indeed able to print a TurboTax pdf from my iMac, and I've used that.  I still couldn't choose the TT drop down choice of categories -- just the return, return plus forms to save, all forms.  But I could make a pdf of the return and forms to save for the file I e-filed this week, and that's what I most needed.  I hope tech can restore full functionality for others by the end of the week, as you suggest.

Meanwhile, thanks for your help.   --CJ777

Glad to learn someone is working on this. I'm tired of the tedious workarounds to try to print from Mac. To be able to print your return is a core function of Turbotax,

On my imac, Turbotax does not show any menu like those displayed.

all updates have been aplied.

Within the pogram I have only the "print" button - which respinds with a message about preparing documents for printing. After about 20 seconds, this window closes and nothing further happens.

Attempts to print after this give the same error sound that results from clicking on an inactive program window.

Using the Print command on the file menu opens th e"which set of documents" window, then the same sequence - Print button, "preparing" message, then nothing.

I am having exactly the same issue on my MAC.  Everything is updated, but when I try to print it just clicks off after 20 seconds....

Turbotax Deluxe on my MacBook Pro 2018 running macOS Ventura 13.7.4 updated earlier today.

I have the same problem as others have reported: when asked to print for mailing, Turbotax opens a dialog box asking for a few minutes patience while it prepares the print-out; a twirling ball appears and twirls for a few tens of seconds; then all disappears--no dialog box, no macOS print dialog, no printable file in downloads, nothing.  Never got to a place where I could print to PDF.

If today's update was supposed to contain a fix, it didn't.

As I noted in another message, today's (Tuesday 3/11/2025) update did not fix this problem.

Hi all,

I figured out how to get a PDF, at least on my Mac, so I'm hoping this might help others with the same issue:

I'm in TurboTax app on my Mac and when I click "Print Returns" I get the same message mentioned here saying it is preparing to print, and then an error sound, and then nothing.

However-- try this instead: Go to the menu at the TOP of the screen (not necessarily the top of the TurboTax WINDOW-- Make sure it has the Apple Icon then it says TurboTax, then File, Edit, View, History, etc.). Then open the File menu and choose Save to PDF. Thist did generate the PDF for me. See screenshot below. Hope this helps someone else!

Why am I not able to Save to PDF on TurboTax Desktop MAC?

I have the same issue; I can save to pdf and only print outside of TT. This is very frustrating since printing for review is a very basic feature of TT and something that should have been tested before release. I've wasted a bunch of valuable time on this. When will this be fixed?!

DMaus --  I too am very frustrated with this issue.  Upon e-Filing we are required to PRINT a special form to mail (USPS) to the Colorado Department of Revenue.  We are unable to do so!  -- n8d

I've found a work around by selecting view option then moving my mouse inside the pop-up view and selecting the arrow down to download or the next icon "with the pot icon" to open as PDF, then able to save as the output. Very painful and hope you'll have a fix soon.

As of today (3/18) the problem persists.

Problem Summary:

When printing on MacOS, you get the pop-up message:

"Please wait while we prepare your tax forms for printing. This initial setup process may take 2-3 minutes. Thank you for your patience"

After about 5-7 seconds, the above pop-up message disappears and nothing happens.

Temporary Solution:

One can still save a PDF copy of the return by going to the Turbo Tax system menu:
  TurboTax ---> File--> Save to PDF ---> FileName/FolderName

We but tax preparation software to prepare returns, efile returns, print and mail returns, print and save copies. TT Deluxe for Mac fails on two of these ( I ignore the fancy 12 step work arounds). We're now less than 4 weeks out from IRS due dates.

It is March 2025 and I am unable to either print my return or save it to a PDF file.  I have a MAC desktop and was successful back in February to print off another return.  All my software, both Turbotax, printer and computer are up to date.  Any suggestions?
