Transferring data from an amended return from previous year

Hi, I just amended a 2016 return successfully using the software from that year. I have the software for 2017, 2018 and 2019; I need to carry that amendment info from 2016 into the 2017 filed return to amend the 2017 and 2018 filed taxes for "rental depreciation" and carry that data over. The software allows you to amend a previous year's amendments but I need it to update the following years ".tax201X" file so you do not start all over again; import that data. Is there a way to import the updated .tax file and merge the data?

Please advise.

I've got a very similar issue.  So far my research indicates you only get one chance to transfer prior year data to a subsequent tax return.  There is no data "merge" for amendments of prior year data.  If you amend the prior year, then you have to create a new "dummy" tax return for the subsequent year if you want TT to run the calcs going forward.  That means staring over and re-entering all the info for the subsequent year!

I hope I'm wrong and someone has a better solution.

Nope ... you cannot transfer the amended info into an already completed return without starting over.   So just add the changed info into the originally filed return using the amendment process.
