Third Economic Payment Error on My Return

I am looking for guidance on a mistake I made on my filed 2021 tax return. Turbotax had asked if I got my whole stimulus payment and I said no because I was only looking at what I got and not my husband. We did actually get the right amount. I filed on 2/2/2022 and it still says it is processing. Should I do an amendment or will they correct it themselves?

If you made an error in the amount of stimulus received, you do not need to file an amended return.

 

The IRS will detect the error when they check against their records and will adjust your refund, but your refund will be delayed.

It's difficult to make a projection at this time. If we can assume they took actions steps to automate the process it could be as little as four weeks. However, this would is an estimate for this early in the season with all the payments that were released early. As far as the maximum time, it's really not possible to know.
