The answer about the IP PIN being 6 digits was wrong

The answer given about the 6 digit IP PIN was incorrect.  The Desk Top program needs to be fixed.  If I have to mail this in, I'll want a complete refund!

@w8tts

Try again....There are two "possible" different PINs...the 5 digit one at the filing step.

And the 6-digit one ...but that is not entered in the filing step.

The IP-Pin...in the desktop software....is entered

...in the Federal Taxes area on the desktop software   (or the Personal taxes area if using Home&Buisness)

.....a menu item in the "Other Tax Situations" tab

There used to be a step on the filing page where the program would ask "do you have an IP pin" but it was hard to find unless you knew exactly what to look for.  And, you can only enter the IP pin for the taxpayer there, not any dependents, and it is easy to confuse the 5 digit e-filing pin with the 6 digit IP pin.

The place to go to enter all your IP pins is under the "Other tax situations" tab.
