Should I file amended return?

I may have a substantial invoice from a medical procedure done in December 2016. I was just informed that my insurance will not cover. I have already filed and received my return. If in fact I do have to pay, should I amend or can I claim on 2017 since my bill was received just last week?

You can't claim a medical expense on your 2016 tax return unless you have actually paid it in 2016.
