Refunds may be different if the Refund Processing Service was used to pay the TurboTax Online fees. If that is so, TurboTax fee plus the additional processing fee is deducted from the federal tax refund. You may also see a change in your refund amount because the IRS made an adjustment/change to the tax return.

You can contact the IRS if you have more questions regarding a tax return/refund at 1-800-829-1040, but prepare for potentially long wait times.
@TurboTaxEbonyLLo actually she used the CD and mailed in her return.
Also wondering why when refund says it will be direct deposited (amended return) it still gets mailed a check?
In that case it is possible there may have been a refund offset and or the IRS made adjustments to the return themselves. IRS representatives would be the only ones who are able to research and find out any information regarding her return. As far as a mailed amended return check, a refund on an amended return can't be deposited directly to your bank account. The IRS always mail amended refund checks.
@TurboTaxEbonyLLo why does it say on TT printout that for state amended tax return, it will be direct deposited? Does the state also only mail amended refund checks (like federal does)?
Can you check online for the status of a STATE refund like you can with the federal?
Each state handles its own refunds so you would need to check with your/her specific state. You can follow the following link to find the state that you need and select it and it will take you to its refund tracking page. <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3300211">https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3300211</a>
You would need to contact the state department of revenue for your state amendment and or the IRS for questions regarding a federal amendment for further assistance. You can use the following link to contact the state department of revenue. <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3302452">https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3302452</a>. You can contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.
@TurboTaxEbonyLLo so the online "check refund status" cannot check status for amended refunds?
<a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return">https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return</a> Is the link for federal amended refund status. Because I don't know the state that you are asking about I am not able to check if they have a specific link for amended refund status. You can search the state department of revenue website for amended return information.
@TurboTaxEbonyLLo It says federal amended refund was processed a week ago but have not received anything. How long does it take to get it?
The state for amended refund is CA.
Up to 16 weeks for federal ( <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.irs.gov/filing/amended-return-frequently-asked-questions">https://www.irs.gov/filing/amended-return-frequently-asked-questions</a>) Up to 4 months for state of CA (<a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.ftb.ca.gov/aboutFTB/Timeframes/?WT.mc_id=Contact_Slab_Processing_Times#/">https://www.ftb.ca.gov/aboutFTB/Timeframes/?WT.mc_id=Contact_Slab_Processing_Times#/</a>). State of CA does not seem to have a way to track amended refund. You would need to contact them for the status. <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.ftb.ca.gov/aboutFTB/Timeframes/#/contact">https://www.ftb.ca.gov/aboutFTB/Timeframes/#/contact</a>
@TurboTaxEbonyLLo So you are saying, even though the federal amended refund was processed mid March 2018, it can still take 16 weeks from mid March to receive? Meaning, the federal amended refund could be received mid July?
@TurboTaxEbonyLLo Speaking for regular tax refunds, what is the time for federal refunds and CA refunds? (not amended)
All were mailed at the same time but the scenarios are different below:
For 2017, got the federal refund already BUT not the CA refund. (how can IRS be faster than state?)
For the 2016 amended, got the CA amended refund BUT not the federal amended refund.
As long as the the IRS and state don't find any errors or issues with the returns, federal up to 21 days after IRS accepts it and up to 4 weeks for CA. You can find all of this information in all of the links that I have provided you above.
@TurboTaxEbonyLLo Thanks for clarifying. So for federal refunds, it only takes 21 days from when it is processed to receive refund. But for federal amended refunds, it can take up to 16 weeks (112 days)????? That's a big difference.
For CA refunds, it takes 4 weeks from when it is processed to receive refund. But for state amended refund it can take 16 weeks (112 days)??? That's a big difference also.
No problem. That is correct. IRS takes longer to process and approve amended returns because they are checking them against their system and information and implementing all of the changes and adjusting the numbers as needed. They say it can take up to 16 weeks but it also depends on how busy they are and how much of a backlog they may or may not have. For CA refunds it can take up to 4 weeks for regular refunds and up to 4 months which is also 16 weeks for amended returns for the same reason as the IRS.
