Rejected Return

Hello. I filed my 2018 taxes with the October 15 extension. I got an email that my return was rejected, but when I went to check what was wrong, it said the deadline for remediation had passed. As my return is $186 and I have already paid almost $100 to use this service, I am not interested in paying another $80 to check what went wrong. What do I do?

Read the rejection message; It tells you what was wrong. Share that reason, and perhaps someone can help you fix it. At this late date, it's likely you'll have to print, sign, and mail in your return ...

on-line preparation and  e-filing for 2018 are now closed.     if the online version is complete you need to pay whatever the fees are and then print your return for mailing.  be sure to follow the filing instructions for a mailed return.   most rejections are due to incorrect Adjusted Gross Income  for 2017 which is irrelevant when return is mailed.   if you post the rejection code, maybe we could help to verify that it's only an AGI problem.

If you already paid your TurboTax fees you can get customer support to push a download of the desktop software to you IF you even need it.  But you do not even seem to know why your return was rejected.  If it was for AGI, it does not matter and does not have to be corrected.  All you need to do is print, sign and mail your return, since AGI does not matter when you mail the return.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
