Refund Status need help

Hello everyone, I put in the wrong school year and amount, and I believe that is why I have not received my tax refund and I filed in February. And when I go to amend it, I owe taxes instead of getting a refund.

I was told to wait for the IRS to send me a letter to make the change, but I have not received the letter yet after weeks, is there anyway I can contact them to see if I can change it? Called the 1-800 number and it’s automated and unsure how to talk to a real person.

Thank you

You have two issues:

The IRS could take year's to change it. You would owe penalties and interest. You need to go ahead and make the tax payment due by April 15 so you won't have those extra issue. You can make Payments.

You should not amend until the original is processed. Your form could have been pulled for an audit where it can be changed. You need to talk to the IRS. When you call in, do not enter your social security number. It will ask twice and then move you to a human. Tax Advice 800-829-1040. Customer Support 800-829-0922.
