PATH Act and 5 days early

So I've seen a lot of conflicting information. I filed and was accepted on January 27th. I knew the PATH Act would delay my refund until late February at least. Today when I checked my transcript on the IRS website it finally has that glorious 846 code saying my refund will be issued 2.26.25.

I paid the $25 to get my refund 5 days early (I'm desperate for this money at this point as most of us are)

Well 5 days earlier than 2.26.25 would be today Friday the 21st.

What is the likelihood I will see my deposit today?

There is no specific timeframe. You should get an email from TurboTax when your refund is on its way. Some didn't get an email until late in the day, but still got their deposit.

For more information click on the link below

5 Days Early Option

If you don't get your deposit, there is a few reasons why that might happen.

  • Your refund was offset or differed from their estimated refund amount, bringing the refund amount below the minimum threshold or above the maximum. What is a refund offset?
  • Your bank wouldn't accept RTP (Real Time Payments) or Same Day ACH deposits, preventing Intuit from depositing your refund up to 5 days ahead of when the IRS would have deposited your refund.
  • The IRS didn't give Intuit up to 5 or more days of notice in advance. This stopped Intuit from meeting the up to 5 days early expectations.

If TurboTax is unable to deliver the refund up to 5 days early, your order will be canceled and you won't be charged the up to 5-Day Early fee. You will receive a follow-up email with a refund and timing update, and if any cancellation is applicable.

If you don’t receive an update email or an automatic refund (if applicable) within a few days, you can contact TurboTax Customer Support by clicking the link below.

If there is no guarantee then why offer the 5 days early at all? It's giving people false hope. How can a service dealing with people's money make such a bold claim but not back it up? For most people in this country 5 days is the difference in being evicted, or going hungry. 5 days can make a huge difference in a person's life when it comes to money matters.

To be honest I'm not sure what that is. I filed with TT and have my DD being sent to my Cashapp. As of 2:21pm on the 21st I've received nothing, and I'm finding it very hard to get any answers at all. I just want my money so I can live.

Be patient, especially if you have not gotten an email saying they were unable to make the deposit early. There is no specific timeframe. Some have come during the late afternoon/evening hours.

I've seen that too when I checked stpg or whatever that bank is.  Then I have seen others do the 5 day early and apparently those who have they don't go thru stpg that it's a completely different bank.  I was told that with a DD date of 2/26 then funds should be in bank account by end of business day on 2/21.  So at this point it's hard to believe who says what ...but guess we shall see

I had the same issue. Just spoke to someone at TT and they told me if you selected 5 Days early, it went to a bank other than SBTPG. However, they canceled my 5 Days early so now it's in limbo. I'm thinking the 5 days early may now cause me a delay. We shall see what happens on my DDD Monday. TT keeps advertising things and then when unable to deliver, claims they have no control. If they have no control, they shouldn't advertise. Just ropes people into filing with them and is false advertising.

I couldn't agree more. It was just a scheme to get people to file with them. Waited all day yesterday in hopes of my deposit just to see the 5 days early was cancelled at 9pm. That's the entire reason I went with TT this year. So here I am waiting for Wednesday (fingers crossed)

I'll never use TT again.

This is funny because we never got an email telling us anything. Only reason I knew we weren't getting the 5 day early is because I checked on turbotax.

About 10 days ago the IRS site posted that an update to filing statuses would occur on Feb 22. Mine along with many others were at "refund accepted" since filing. I got a "refund approved" status on Feb 22nd with details and dates of the refund.

What really irritates the hell out of me is that most financial institutions will deposit the refund when they get the notice of an upcoming deposit from the Treasury Dept and yet Turbo Tax feels like they can deceive their customers into thinking it’s something special that allows them to get it early if they pay a fee. Then now that Intuit owns Credit Karma they can further delay the funding of refunds for people who get the advance because Credit Karma is not going to allow a deposit to clear and post until they actually receive the funds from SBTPG who then intentionally delays transferring the deposits until they receive physically receive the funds from the IrS- and basically ignores the notice of deposit they receive. Is it to push people to pay for early deposit ? Idk, but it’s amazing that at the time of the refund being completed  that they haven’t told people that their bank is ineligible to receive RTP’s so they could change their deposit institution but instead lead people to believe they are eligible when they aren’t.

I also found it interesting that there has been a recent rule passed that is aimed at cutting down on tax companies receiving the refunds first before the customers do and now limits the ability for bank acts to have more than 3 refunds deposited at a time. But I guess SBTPG and Intuit have found ways around it.

People don’t like to be bull**bleep**ted and especially when it comes to their money. Clear and transparent communication is absolutely necessary especially when it comes to businesses that are involved with people’s tax returns.

The company that TT uses for those who get advances is SBTPG and they have to be intentionally misleading customers on when to expect their refund by allowing for confusing information regarding the funding status to be displayed on their website for each individual customer and honestly, it looks horrible on TT and Intuit. Not only that, they allow for excessively slow transfers of refunds to be done for customers who got the advance form the time that SBTPG receives notice of deposit and the time they actually send the ach - slow as hell, to CK. Credit Karma acts like they can’t see deposits until they are processed and deposited and yet they can see tg notice of deposit from SBTPG but feel the need to pretend they can’t see it unless you sign up for premium banking.

When did it become ok to do things because they can and not because they should? When did it become ok to push things to the last possible minute to make as much money off their customers as they can and pretend it’s everyone else’s fault? Come on Intuit! You own the tax preparing company and the bank that you force your advance customers to deposit into - you know **bleep** well when the deposits are coming but act like you don’t in hopes to get customers to pay more for things they should get automatically.

Do better

I used turbo tax for 5 yrs and usually have it deposited into my bank acct, this yr we wanted to get it early so we opened the credit karma acct like it says to do and I haven't seen an email stating we were denied it early, where would I see this on TT.

I seen some ppl said they seem it on the page of TT

I have a date from the IRS of a deposit on 2/26 on or before that date if not in there by the 3rd to give the IRS a call.

So can anyone help me figure out how to see if we were denied or approved for the 5 days early and I never received an email for from where my refund or Intuit or turbo tax about my refund being updated to approved with the date I that's out on where's my refund and my irs transcript, actually yr TT and usually where my refund never show me when it's sent I find out checking my acct

This is so stressful I have no food we were this money on the 21st but that's not happening

You more than likely won't get it till the 26th. One Representative told the story of since they don't have 5 business days to do it then you don't get it 5 days early.

If TurboTax can't provide the refund in the time frame they said then a refund of the $25 should happen. If not then.........

Makes sense. I can understand. My deposit was set 4 days from the date of approval. Kind of hard for turbotax to prepare I suppose within such short notice. I can wait a few more days.
