Refer to the solutions below if you're having trouble getting your verification code or your code doesn't work.

I never received my code:
Follow these solutions in the order listed:

  1. (Emailed verification codes) – Check your Junk and/or Spam folders. On Gmail, also check your other email tabs.
  2. Wait about 5 minutes; your email or phone provider might still be sending the message, or your connection may be slow.
  3. Verify your email and/or phone number in TurboTax. Make any corrections if necessary.
The code I received is not working:
This usually happens either when an old (expired) code is entered into the current request window, or the request window has been closed.

Here's what you need to do to get back on track:

  1. Request another verification code.
  2. Leave the window open that asks for the code. Closing the window will automatically invalidate the code.
    • If you need to check your email for the code, open another tab or browser session instead of overwriting the request window.
  3. Wait for the verification code to arrive via email or text.
    • This can take a few minutes, so be patient. Requesting a new code will cancel the code currently being sent.
  4. Copy/paste or type the code into the request window. (Don't enter 692-227 if receiving via text – as that's our SMS short code, not your verification code.)
Other Options:
Alternatively, you can select Try something else on the Get help signing in screen instead of a code. Simply follow the onscreen instructions to verify your account.

What if I'm having trouble with my filing verification code?

You can request your code via text message. To receive your codes through text please complete the following: 

Sign in to your account

  1. Select My Account
  2. Select Account Settings
  3. Select the blue Security tab on the left
  4. Select Two-Step Verification
  5. Select Turn On
  6. Enter your Phone Number and Password
  7. Sign out of TurboTax, close your browser and sign back in. You should receive a verification code shortly after signing back into your account. 

If you are still unable to get the code to work through text, choose I forgot my user ID or password and then choose I don't know my email address or user ID. You’ll be asked to provide some information about yourself, and then you’ll be asked a few questions to verify your identity. If that method fails, you’ll get a phone number to contact customer support.

Make sure to leave the window open that asks you for the code. If you close this window and go back after you receive the code, the code will no longer be valid. If you need your browser to get your e-mail, open a new separate window, don't close. Also, make sure you are using the most recent code and not using a prior one. Every time that you ask for a code it cancels out all the previous ones that were sent and only takes the most recent. Please wait a few minutes after each code request to receive your email. It is not generated instantly.

I have been using turbotax for several  years and never needed a code to enter the progrram.  I bot my program from turbotax on line a while back and have no recollection of any codes.  how do I use this program or shud I forget it?

I am not computer smart.  I read the stuff about getting my code and dont understand what I must do.  why did you make this so hard.  I have used turbotax for years with no problems.

Are you referring to the license code?
