My taxes

Please help. I tried to file my taxes for last year and after I finished it all it tells me that my social security has already been submitted. I have not file any taxes myself. How do I get help I can't get the stimulus with out filing. It continues to feel me not enough information to be eligible. My main concern is how do I find out who filed my social?? The irs isn't taking calls so I'm just screwed? Any one know what I need to do?

You cannot find out who may have filed income taxes using your Social Security number.  The best option for you is to file your return by mail.  Then, if there is already a tax return on file under your Social Security number, the IRS will examine both returns to determine what happened.  Be sure to attach copies of your W-2s and sign the return.  Keep reading for one more possibility.

Did you submit your information through the non-filer portal, either through TurboTax or through the IRS in order to receive a stimulus payment?  If so, the message you are seeing is being caused by that submission.  Please see the information below.

When using the non-filer system on the IRS website, your information is processed by the IRS as an original filed return.

Any subsequent filing submitted electronically will be rejected and must be mailed to the IRS for processing.

You can do this in a couple of different ways:

  • You can create and file an amended return with Form 1040X, which will be processed by the IRS as an amended return.
  • Or, you can complete your Form 1040 information using TurboTax and include a cover letter with the return to explain that you completed the non-filer registration for the stimulus check and that this is your correct tax return.  Instead of the cover letter, you can also write '1040X Amended Return' on the top of your Form 1040 before you sign and mail it.

Don't forget that when you mail a paper return to the IRS, you must include copies of your W-2s and 1099s, plus you need to sign and date the return.

Internal Revenue Manual 21.5.3.4 General Claims procedures states that ‘an informal written inquiry that includes everything necessary to input a correct adjustment’ will be processed.

Yes I believe that's what happen. I was told to do the non filers because someone else told me I owed so I couldn't do my taxes. Then I tried to do it myself and ended up not owing so I would need to pay the fees because I don't know how to do it myself. Then I could get my taxes printed to mail in. Now after this I was sent a date for my stimulous on my green dot DD for April but I haven't seen the money. So I been stuck with no way to even pay to send the taxes let alone pay a thing. I dont even know where my check coulda been deposited...
