My refund was lost

Have you contacted your bank? Was this for a paper check or direct deposit?

If your bank rejected the refund that notice will be updated on Where's My Refund and the IRS will mail you a paper check.

If you continue to not have progress with your refund and it goes over two weeks please see this information from the IRS as you may need to initiate a trace: https://www.irs.gov/faqs/irs-procedures/refund-inquiries/refund-inquiries-18. This will allow the IRS to contact your bank. However there could be a delay for this due to COVID-19: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue

To check on a state refund please visit your state Department of Revenue website for further instructions on refunds that have not been posted to your account.
