MFJ to MFS amendment post filing date

After filing taxes timely in Apr'25, I recently realized i made a mistake as my spouse doesn't qualify as US tax resident (less than 183 days stay in the year). So i filed for amendment to change MFJ to MFS and paid for extra taxes. The state was accepted while federal was rejected. Quick google search shows that you can't change filing status after the filing date - not sure if its TurboTax specific or general.

Appreciate any suggestions on what should be my next steps? Should i expect & just wait for audit? anything to do proactively? Should reach out other tax professional?

Primarily W2 income & CA state.

The rule that you can't change from joint to separate returns after the due date of the return is an IRS rule, not a TurboTax rule. The rule applies no matter what tax software you use.

I suggest that you consult a local tax professional.
