The bank routing number is exactly nine digits, nor more and nor less.

What routing number are you entering?

Clear the bank info and ask for a refund check.

e-File.

take the check to your bank for deposit

That will be the quickest way.

I am getting the same error.  The number is correct.  There has to be a better fix than to wait for a check.

I spoke with live help (person, not AI chatbot) on Tuesday Aug 29, 2023. They said that there is a known bug in the form for direct deposit that won't take a routing number. It is not user error. The form needs to be fixed by the Turbo Tax team. I was told it would be fixed by Wednesday. But, as of today, Thursday, it is still broken. You can request a check instead of direct deposit, but they say it will take an additional 7 to 10 business days to get your refund on top of what it would normally take for direct deposit.

Program updates usually come out on Thursdays at least for the  Desktop program.  I would try again tomorrow Friday.

I'm using the browser and it is still broken as of Friday @10:30 am EST. I'm going to contact help again.

Product support says that the issue won't be fixed until at least mid-next week.  I'm going to go ahead and get a check refund instead of direct deposit.  There is no guarantee that it will be fixed any time soon.

I am also getting this annoying error. 9 digits!! I'm entering the same 9 digits over and over and I have also tried on a Mac and PC, same result...yes, I realize this is an insane action. I hope this gets fixed soon.

It is now February 2024, and this is still an ongoing issue. Ridiculous.

If you are using Desktop Software:

1. Open TurboTax software, then open the file you are working on.

2. Open the "forms" tab at top left.

3. Scroll down to where the banking information is and the routing box will be yellow with the routing number and the word routing number behind it.

4. Clear the box and move the cursor out of the box, then re-enter the cursor in the box and enter your routing number and that should fix it.

Can one of you provide a token so we can get this looked at?

We would like to take a deeper dive into this message to assist you.  In order to do this, it would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2023" file that is experiencing this issue. You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions: Go to the black panel on the left side of your program and select Tax Tools.

  1. Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
  2. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
  3. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
  4. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is. Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
  5. Reply to this thread with your Token number. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

Here are the instructions if you are using TurboTax CD/Download:

  1. Click on Online in the top left menu of TurboTax CD/Download for Windows
  2. Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'
  3. Write down or send an image of your token number then place in this issue.
  4. We can then review your exact scenario for a solution.
  5. Please also tell us any states included in the return.

We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.

If you are using TurboTax Online, this situation has been reported to the developers for resolution as soon as possible.

If you are using a CD/downloaded version of TurboTax, use the following steps to overcome the error conditions preventing direct deposit:

  1. While on the screen asking you to enter your banking information for direct deposit, click the Forms button in the upper right corner of the screen.
  2. This will open the Info Wks where there are two items that need attention.
  3. Check the Yes box highlighted in pink beside the question Do you want to elect Direct Deposit of any Federal refund?
  4. Go to the routing number field and delete all of the extra characters entered after your nine-digit routing number.
  5. Click the Step-by-Step button at the top right corner of the screen to go back to the filing choices and continue to file your return.

Ah, but it's still not fixed. Rather pathetic on the part of Turbotax
