The length and format of your employer's State ID depends entirely on which state is concerned and, in some cases, may depend on the type of industry your employer is in and when the employer applied for a State Tax ID.
If you are encountering a problem with getting the TurboTax program to accept a State ID, just enter the employer's Federal EIN in Box 15 of you W-2.
