How can I change my state information? I made an error and cannot change it.

Would you please clarify your question? What specific error did you make? 

 

Please follow the steps below to change your state residency:

1. Select the Personal Info tab
2. Select the blue Edit next in the same row as your name
3. Scroll down to question Tell us the state(s) you lived in
4. Select the correct State
5. Continue through the program

Also, you will need to wait to file the amendment until the IRS has accepted your tax return. The IRS will not start processing tax returns until February 12, 2021.

I believe the question was regarding child credit. I selected no in error. The system won't let me correct that problem. Also, TurboTax said I have to print and mail. When I printed my NYS return, my $1400 refund disappeared to even, the return had a lot of blank lines, and it tells me 8 can't mail it, I have to e-file. TurboTax won't let me e-file. 

You can return to your taxes to make corrections, and can also switch from the mail option to the e-file option. 

Here's how to get into your return.  

1. Open your return if it's not already open.   

2. On the Tax Home screen with the amount of your refund and status, scroll down and select Add a State (don't worry, we're not adding a state) to access your tax forms and worksheets.   

3. In the left menu, select Tax Tools then Print Center.   

4. On the TurboTax Print Center screen, select Print, save or preview this year's return.   

5. On the next TurboTax Print Center screen, select 2020 federal returns and Include Government and TurboTax Worksheets (optional), then select View or Print Forms.   

Please follow the instructions below to switch your return from mail to e-file.

Tried this - DOESN’T WORK.  I am an Illinois resident.  Illinois is on the profile as full time resident.  Illinois state form has full time resident.  I mistakenly hit part time resident in Missouri.  I cannot get the screen which allows me to choose something else besides part time resident!  And, I can’t delete and start again because I already paid.  HELP

I appreciate the reply, but a I don’t think I should have to upgrade because of a TurboTax system error.  I don’t have a tax question.  I want to change the residency. The system isn’t giving me the screens to do so.  There should be free ITS help for issues like this.  This will likely be the last time I use Turbo Tax.  I ran into tons of issues with military pay and deductions on the state forms- having to delete from one to complete the other, then put military back in.  RIDICULOUS.  If no-one here has the workaround, I will file with a different company and then use a real person for future filings.  

You can either fix this through the Personal Information Screen, which shows residency or at the very beginning of the Missouri state return interview.
