Form 8962

I just got done filing my taxes and realized that TurboTax didnt ask me about health insurance. I get insurance through Obamacare and have a 1095A. But I already submitted my taxes. How do I fix this and file form 8962 with the taxes I already submitted?

Well now you WAIT  ...

Can I cancel a pending return?

No. After you select Transmit Returns Now, your e-file goes to pending status, where it will stay until it's either been accepted or rejected by the government.

Think of pending as "in transit" or "in limbo"just like you can't cancel a letter that you sent yesterday, you can't cancel a return that's on its way to the government.

To make corrections or changes to your pending return, wait until your return's either been accepted or rejected.

  • If your return gets accepted, you'll need to WAIT FOR IRS INSTRUCTIONS on how to proceed.
  • If your return gets rejected, you'll be able to make your changes before you re-submit your return.

This year, since there is no mandate to have the insurance and no penalty, you are not required to complete a Health Insurance section like the past few years.   Only taxpayers who have a 1095-A need to complete that section which is in the FEDERAL tab under the deductions and credits tab under Medical ...  since you had the form you should have asked BEFORE you filed ...

Yeah me too and it didn't freaking ask or anything. I kinda remember a small section mentioning it but it should've been more clear. This happened to me two years ago and it took months to rectify and it happened again this year. I'm so frustrated. I filed early cause I got my W-2 early and now here I am totally screwed. Unless someone has a fast solution. Last time I had to wait to receive notice that I forgot it, then I had to amend and send it in, took 12 weeks+ to get my direct deposit after that. So frustrating

I am sorry you are frustrated ... but A) you are an adult and B) you had this form in hand and C) you knew you had to do something with that form especially since you had this issue in the past.  YOU should have asked about this BEFORE you filed so you have no one to blame but yourself  after all  Turbotax is after all just a DIY program.

Now you WAIT  and pray the return is rejected ... maybe the IRS will catch the missing form 8962 and reject it this year right away.   If not you know the situation ... you must wait for the IRS to request the form.

There is not an extra fee to amend, unless amending requires you to upgrade to a higher version of the software.

Do I need to amend?

The IRS is requesting Form 8962 for 2018
