Filing 2020 Amended Return Electronically

I am amending my 2020 Form 1040 for updated K-1s just received. I opened my originally-filed Form 1040 in Turbotax and I indicated I was going to amend. I then went to the Forms menu and pulled up the K-1s I wanted to amend. The software seems to be working as it is tracking the change in income. I manually pulled up the Form 1040X and it seems to be working as well. I saved this return as a separate file named "amended". So, when I file electronically, does the software know to file as an amended return and does it submit the Form 1040X? Thanks.

If you efile while in the amended return tax return file then the amended return will be efiled correctly.  Make sure to open the correct return file when you are ready to submit the amended return.

Yes.

 

Beginning with the 2019 tax year, you can e-file amended tax returns. If you used TurboTax to prepare Form 1040-X, follow the software's instructions to e-file the amendment.

You get one e-File of 1040-X if you e-Filed.  You must submit by Oct15.

Make sure your 1040-X is complete and correct.
