Question

filed extension form 4868 through TT, but line 6 is wrong!

I filed an extension through TT, yesterday (4/18/22).

Line 4: $1,649

Line 5: $1,806

Line 6:    $157

Line 6 should have been $0.00. TT auto-generated Line 6 and submitted it. It wasn't until I downloaded the submitted form that I saw the error.

What should I do?

Thanks!

File your tax return by 10/15/22 and pay any tax you owe ASAP.    As long as the extension was accepted, you will avoid the late filing penalty.   If you do owe tax, the interest is accruing now.   The extension extends your filing date, not your payment due date

I really appreciate your reply, Dawn, and understand that I should be fine, since I don't owe any taxes. In fact, I'm due for refunds from both Federal & State.

I'm just concerned that TT has made such an error, and wonder what other errors it has made for who know how many others. Their subroutine is calculating this line incorrectly.

Of course, it also bothers me, that form 4868 makes it look like I owe money (although, if anyone looks at it, they'll see that line 6 was generated wrong), but that's nothing, compared to how this might affect others.
