FICA / Withheld less

My company and I didn't withhold FICA because we thought I wasn't an alien resident.

We found out later that I qualify as alien resident then start implementing FICA taxes starting 2022.

So now I owe FICA taxes to IRS that I haven't paid throughout 2021.

Will IRS contact me for the amount of FICA taxes my company and I didn't pay?

Or should I contact them first? - If so, where should I call them?

No, IRS will not contact you for the missed FICA taxes

FICA taxes are the responsibility of the employer.

They should recover the FICA taxes and remit to IRS with their share.

You should contact your employer and request them to recover your share from your pay and remit it to IRS.

Thank you LoganathanB.

My employer is saying they can't change the W-2 and IRS will contact me and ask for the offset amount since I already filed with the W-2 with no FICA.

I'm the one who misinformed them about my residency status initially. Will I be held accountable if anything goes wrong? I'm preparing my H1 Visa right now so I don't want to risk any legal offense.

Employers are responsible for withholding and remitting FICA taxes to IRS.

They have to pay an equal amount as your withholding and remit it to IRS.

They can issue a corrected W2 to you once they remit but it will not change your tax return.
