Federal Return Status

I filed my tax return Jan 27th and was accepted the same day. I have been checking my refund regularly on the IRS website. About a week ago the bars went away and it says my tax return is being processed and a refund date will appear when available should I be worried?

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 20 of your Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

On the IRS site you are also offered the use of an app called IRS2Go

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

My wife and I just got married and we claimed our son would that have something to do with a delay?

If you are getting earned income credit or additional child tax credit:

Again---if you are receiving either of those credits you are going to wait until end of February/early March for your refund.  That law went into effect in 2015.

Look at your 2019 Form 1040 to see the child-related credits you received

Child Tax Credit line 13a

Credit for Other Dependents line 13a

Earned Income Credit line 18a

Additional Child Tax Credit line 18b

This is the first year I’ve claimed a child my son was born on 04/30/2019 so I don’t know how this child tax credit works I just know that past three years I’ve used turbo tax to file I have got everything back pretty quick from filing to being accepted then it being approved by the irs to getting my direct deposit into my back account I just know this year since I’ve claimed my newborn son it’s taking a lot longer and just worrying me is all like I said my federal return was accepted by the irs but it’s been processing since Jan 27th and all the bars on my where my refund on the irs website are gone
