Federal refund 2020

my return is accepted by turbo tax and efiled. Its been since February 12th since its been accepted. On the IRS website it says its still being processed. Its been way over 21 days and I've received my state refund and stimulus.  I haven't received any kind of letter telling me why I haven't received it. Does anyone know if it has to do with unemployment benefits and them changing the law on taxing weekly benefits? Bc I was having taxes taken off weekly but I heard they changed that to where we don't have to now. So could they possibly amending it for those people?

The IRS doesn't share your information with us so we can't tell you when you'll get your refund or why your state refund and your stimulus came before your federal refund.

However, per IRS, they have around 12 million tax returns that have been caught in a processing backlog created by the pandemic, which shut down the IRS for a time. Americans should see their refunds in the coming months. "We would hope to be through this backlog by the summer," said IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig.

Perhaps you had a refund offset.  Other reasons some returns take longer to process are the following:

  • Includes errors
  • Is incomplete
  • Is affected by identity theft or fraud
  • Includes a claim filed for an Earned Income Tax Credit or an Additional Child Tax Credit. See Q&A below.
  • Includes a Form 8379, which could take up to 14 weeks to process
  • Needs further review in general
  • The IRS will contact you by mail when we need more information to process your return.

Keep checking the IRS Where's My Refund page to see if your refund status has been updated
