Does a corrected W-2 completely replace the original W-2? Should all the information on the original W-2 be discarded if it was not listed as corrected on the W-2C?

You are correct. Throw the original W-2 in the trash, and only use the corrected one. Make sure in the program that when it asks, you DO indicate that the corrected box is checked. (I assume it is)

The advice that Carl is giving you is only accurate if the corrected W-2 reports every field.  Many times a corrected W-2 only reports what was reported incorrectly on the original.  If that's the case, you need to retain both to have a complete record.

thanks raydec. Last time I received a corrected W-2 was probably 30 or more years ago. Things change over time of course, so thanks for the update to ensure that bxnycct gets the correct information.

Client received W-2c correcting State income.

state income tax is correct on W-2.  Does W-2c

also report any info about state income tax that is correct on W-2?

Depends ... sometimes the issuer sends a new W-2 with all the boxes showing amounts and you have to figure out which ones changed ... or they will correctly send out a form like this that only shows the information that changed.
