Disability Dependent

My mother made  $6,300 in 2020.

Can she claim my Adult  Disabled Brother  as a dependent who doesn’t work (he received 8k -10k  disability benefits  for 2020 ) Is disability benefits income taxable ? Will she have any issues claiming him.

How did she support herself and him on only $6300 for the year?

Was his disability from Social Security, an employer plan, or something else?

For the most part, disability benefits are non-taxable.

She both supports herself and my brother with her own earnings along with  my brother’s disability benefits(I’m not sure which of the two  he receives, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) )

. He’s permanently disabled (schizophrenia)  , he’s not really capable of working or either handling his own finances. That’s why she takes care and provides for him.

Yes she can claim him.
