You need to look at your own records to see what happened with your 2022 return in order to respond to the IRS.

From the IRS:

What you need to do

File your tax return immediately or explain to us:

  • why you're filing late
  • why you don't have to file, or
  • that you've already filed

Did you in fact file a 2022 tax return?   Did you owe tax due for 2022 and pay it?  Your only proof that you paid will be your own bank or credit card records.

What does your TT online account say for 2022?   Does it show that you filed a 2022 return that was accepted?  Or does it say something else instead of "accepted"--like "rejected", "printed," or "ready to mail?"   If it says anything other than "accepted," it was not filed.

E-filing for 2022 is permanently closed.  If you still need to file your 2022 return, it has to be filed by mail.  Print it, sign it and date it in ink, and mail it in.

Can you find your 2022 account and return?

You have to access your own account and/orprint it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.

Start a 2024 return online and enter some personal information  so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax?  If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.
