Corrected w2 - Social Security Tax Withheld

Hello,

I received a corrected w2 form (44444) for the year of 2020 and the only thing that has been corrected is the box number 4 (Social Security Tax Withheld). I tried using Turbo Tax to amend my return but when I updated the amount, the refund did not change and at the end, I see a message that states there is no difference in my tax return even though I updated box 4. Am I required to amend my tax or this is something that I don’t have to be worried about since my employer already has sent the corrected info to the IRS and there is no tax difference?

Thank you very much!

You only need to amend if the Social Security in box 4 was increased and you have more than 1 employer and all the box 4 Social Security is more than the max.  Then you can get the excess back.  For 2020 the max for Social Security is $8,537.40 on $137,700 of wages.
