change the bank account using amend?

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to change a bank account for a tax return using the amend process. I have filled for my taxes in 2023 but my bank account denied it and I've been left with 2 checks (which have both expired by now).

Is this possible or am I screwed?

thank you!

No---you do not amend to change your bank account.

Please explain what you really mean when you say you have "two checks" that are expired but that your bank account was "denied."    Do you mean you received checks that the bank would not accept or cash?   What happened?

The amended tax return, Form 1040-X cannot be used to change a bank account for direct deposit of a tax refund.

If the refund checks you received have expired you should have received a CP32A notice in the mail from the IRS.

Go to this IRS website for requesting a refund check - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/understanding-your-cp32a-notice

@_Albert_ The IRS will not make a direct deposit to a foreign bank account.  They will only mail a check to you--and they will send it to the address you used on your tax return.
