You won't be able to make any changes until your return has been accepted or rejected by the IRS. If rejected, you would need to correct any information that caused your return to be rejected as well as make any other changes to your return that you see fit, then proceed to resubmit your return

If you have already e-filed, you will not be able to change the refund method. If your information is incorrect, please click here for more details of what to expect. Please see specifically the section labeled "Solution".

This doesn't answer my question at all. HOW do I change it? Not "what are the stipulations". My refund was accepted and now I need to change the return method.

You only option is to call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and see if they will delete the bank account information for you, if that is how you asked for the refund to be sent to you and ask them to mail you a paper check. Once your tax return has been accepted by the IRS TurboTax does not have any control of where or how the funds for your refund are sent. Please see this TurboTax FAQ for more information.

Here are some tips when contacting the IRS:

  • First choose your language.
  • Then do not choose the first choice regarding REFUND, or it will send you to an automated phone line.
  • Instead, press 2 for personal income tax questions.
  • Then press 1 for form, tax history, or payment.
  • Then press 3 for all other questions.
  • Then press 2 for all other questions to be transferred to an agent

If you need to inquire about a state refund please contact your state Department of Revenue.

How do I add direct deposit

If you've already filed and your return has been accepted (or mailed), it's too late to change your bank account for direct deposit. If you have not filed yet you can click here to find the directions to update your direct deposit.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to change your direct deposit information after filing your return.

The best way to track your refund through the IRS website Where's My Refund?.

Please see below.

If you have already e-filed or mailed in your return, you are not able to make any changes to your refund options. If your financial institution rejects the deposit, the government will mail your refund check.
Please see the FAQ: What if I entered the wrong bank account for direct deposit? for additional information.

After my refund is returned for wrong back acct info & then I make corrections to resubmit. How much longer will it take for the irs to receive my corrected (direct deposit info changed) income tax refund documents?

@mdeanda214 If the bank rejects the deposit, the IRS will then just mail you a paper refund check to the address on your tax return.  You are only able to correct your direct deposit information if your tax return was rejected in the initial filing. Please see the FAQ: What if I entered the wrong bank account for direct deposit? for additional information.

MY RETRUN HAS BEEN ACCEPTED I SAW I PUT CHECKING INSTEAD OF SAVINGS ON DIRECT DEPOSIT. HOW CAN I CHANGE IT

@DEVINDON00 Is your savings account still active and your bank will not reject your refund?

If you've already filed and your return has been accepted (or mailed), it's too late to change your bank account for direct deposit.

The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS.  Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return.  Expect a delay of at least a couple of weeks to receive your refund.

Here is what the IRS says about entering incorrect banking information

IRS accepted my return twice first time was when they opened their system. 2nd time was after the PACT act release. Now it’s a waiting game. Yes we have a active saving acct. My bank said in person it’s up to the back office. So keep an eye out for it. Savings has both our names on it. Our second acct has my name on it & my son. The first acct has our name on it. The it’s was filed w/ both our names. LoL. I have kept in touch w/ my bank through customer service because I don’t want them to send it back.
