Cannot Open 2018 File

Hi,

I'm using the same computer as last year, all software installed on the hard drive and this is what's happening:

- Double click on 2018(to check an entry in it), it opens, I select Amend and I get no files found, hit find tax files and nothing.

- If I select begin a new one, it finds the 2017 files to transfer to start a new return.

- A search of the hard drive for *.tax2018 produces the file I need, can open it via double click.

- Just can't open from the TTax user interface.

Something to do with the path?

Any input will be much appreciated.

Thanks for your time

Please refer to the article below for help opening your .tax2018 file.

I have a ".tax2018" file. How do I open it?

Thanks for your reply.

In the past, I've been able to open up the past four year's returns and look at them from the TT program, now I can't.

As stated, all the software is on the computer. If it wasn't, I wouldn't have been able to process my returns for the past five years, correct?

Earlier this year I went into each of the past five years returns, through the program and saved each return as a PDF, and then backed these files up on an external drive.

Possibly something happened to the path that TT is looking for? Knowing what that path is would be helpful, so I can verify that it hasn't changed for some reason.

Thanks

TurboTax could be defaulting to a folder called "TurboTax" on your C drive. In the past, it did go to a TurboTax folder within the Documents folder. I would suggest checking both folders as possible default paths.

Thank you.

It has to be me...LOL. Once today, while saving one of the returns, the file didn't go to Documents-->TurboTax folder. It went to one of the backup folders I saved things to earlier this year. I did a "save as" to the TurboTax folder, and it was fine/there. When I saved this return again, it went to the right place. It appears to me, the file is saving to the last path that was used. I use "appears" carefully because I could be way off....Thanks again.
