I contacted turbo tax support and they couldn't get it to work either. So we decided it may be the disc so I was sent a download to try it again. I downloaded the new program and had the same issue. I tried several things and what I have found is that it may be the transfer of the 2020 return that is causing the issue.
When I transfer the tax2020 file I cannot enter a W-2. I get the "...hit a snag, go back to previous page and make sure info is entered correctly." Or something like that.
However, when I transfer using the pdf of the 2020 return I am able to add a W-2. However, this transfer does not include my depreciation info for business and rental property, etc. This is the main reason I use the program. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I tried to go back into TT2020 and resaved the return and used that one to transfer and no change. Still unable to enter a W-2.
I am using the desktop program. It imported information from my 2020 return but won't allow me to enter W2 information. It didn't ask me to import my W2 info, and just skipped over any "Wages and Salaries" details. Under "Your 2021 Income Summary" I now see a $0 for 2021 income although there is income in the 2020 column. When I hit the "Update" button, the window goes blank. "FEDERAL TAXES" is highlighted, as is "Wages & Income" but there is nothing else in the window under the "Wages & Income, Deductions & Credits, Other Tax Situations, Federal Review, Smart Check" line. If I click "Wages & Income" it takes me to "How do you want to enter your income?" It doesn't matter if I select "Guide me" or "I'll Explore on my own" as both take me back to the "Your 2021 Income Summary."
Please see this Help Article for instructions on how to update your software.
After your software has been updated, please see this Help Article for instructions on how to import or enter your W-2.
I am working on a tax return for my son. I am trying to enter his W2 information. Each time I ender the Employer ID # the software generates an error message that it hit a snag and asks that I revisit the topic.
I updated the software and rebooted my computer - nothing has worked to solve the issue
Take the following steps to see if you have a different experience. It has been successful for a similar situation.
First try clearing any cache and cookies. This works in many situations because of pieces of data in the background that you though were deleted. Close your TurboTax return and program before clearing the data.
Next, take the following steps for your son's return.

I have tried several times to enter my W-2 and I get the error message We hit a snag . . . I have tried updating manually to no effect. I tried closing and restarting the program didn't work. I tried updating from the task bar but didn't work. It said my program is up to date. Please help. If I uninstall the program will I lose my other tax files?
I did all the clear cache, log on as admin, etc. The only thing that worked was going to the upper left taskbar (where it says file etc.) and going to forms, I think, and then W-2 and then entering my info into that W-2 form from the taskbar. This then populated my W-2 on the wages and salaries. Pretty disappointed in turbo tax on this significant problem. It is the program, not the computer. I had the same issue with a newly downloaded version and the cd version. Turbo tax support was quick to try and help but this is a problem. Hope this helps, I know it is a frustrating issue.
It depends. Are you using a Turbo Tx program downloaded from a CD bought from a retail location?
What happens? Did you select Joint and add your spouse under My Info? Did you enter a W2 for yourself?
To add a W2 just type w2 (small W) in the search box at the top of your return and click on Jump To the W2
OR To Add a W2 enter it under
Federal Taxes on the left side
Wages & Income
Then Wages and Salaries- Click the Start or Update button
Then if you are married you should have 2 buttons...Add w-2 for (taxpayer name) and Add w-2 for (spouse name). Click on the correct button to add a W-2.
I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. AS SOON AS I GET TO THE NEXT SCREEN, I AM UNABLE TO INPUT ANY INFO IN THE BOXES. LIKE MY KEYBOARD DOESN'T WORK.
Are you using the desktop or online version> @jaimecg24
DESKTOP FOR 2021 I JUST DOWNLOADED AND UPDATED AND IM STILL HAVING ISSUES
If I try the auto import of my W2 it gives me an error stating my control box is incorrect. So, I bypassed the auto import and tried to input myself, which is when my keyboard no longer works. As soon as I exit that screen using the back feature everything works again.
i have downloaded from online and then disc and still not allowing me to type in info
Instead of trying to import the W-2, you can opt to enter it manually. To do this:
If you are having problems with the program or glitches, please try clearing your cookies and cache.
How to clear your cache.
How to delete cookies.
If this does not work, I recommend trying another browser and checking your internet connection, ensure you are hardwired.
If you need additional assistance you can contact an agent.

I am having the same problem with 2022 . I purchased the deluxe download. I have used Turbo tax for years , never had a problem until now when using this download and using Windows. In the past always used CD on my mac, but this yr, my mac was no longer supported. I am able to transfer last years returns ( I prepare my 3 teen children plus our joint return) . This yr, I transferred one return for one child and was able to complete return (have not filed yet) and then when I tried to prepare the other two returns for my children I cannot get past the wages. Everything transfers from prior yr, but then when the jobs come up from prior yr, I select the job no longer valid and one job is left. After this it freezes!! Doesn't allow me to update prior yr job with current info or allow me to add additional W2's. and update does not allow me to update. I have been screwing around with this for hours ! Ready to give up and bring back for refund and file manually!!!
@m3jnpatd Since you are using a Windows based computer, try this -
Save the tax return. Close the TurboTax program
Right click on the TurboTax icon
Click on Properties
Click on the Compatibility tab
Check the box Run the program as an administrator
Click on Apply and OK
Start the TurboTax program again and see if the problem persists. If it does try re-starting your computer and then try again.
I have the desktop version of Turbotx. I have trouble shooted the obvious, cleaned cache, updated software, rebooted multiple times & still this program will not let me update my W2 information. I click update and it takes me to the next screen which is white/blank. Please someone advise me.
