Can i open a prior years return(2015) with the current years(2016) software

I do not have a PDF file of my 2015, does this mean that I will have install 2015 software

Yes you will have to install 2015 software to open a .tax2015 file.

You cannot open a .tax2015 file with the 2016 software. Did you also save it as a pdf file?
