Can I fix an error on line 5b which should be 0?

5a shows an amount, but 5b should be 0, how do I fix this?

Are you referring to the Form 1040 Line 5a and 5b for pension or annuity income?

If so, then delete the Form 1099-R that you entered and re-enter manually.  If this was from an IRA then you Must check the box IRA/SEP/SIMPLE on the Form 1099-R and the amounts will be entered on Lines 4a and 4b.

Enter 1099-r in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to 1099-R

Please clarify your question

  • Is this referring to retirement or annuity income?
  • Did you get a 1099-R?
  • If so is there an amount in Box 2 indicating taxable amount?
  • What code is in Box 7?
  • If this is a retirement account. what did you do with the money?
    • Put in your bank account?
    • Transfer to a different account?
  • Describe as best you can why you don't think you owe a tax?
