Amending taxes

I originally filed my taxes and owed about $500 which I paid.  I had to file an amendment for incorrect information and now it says I’m due a refund of $1400.  Do I get my payment of $500 back as well and if not, why?

The $500 you paid is included in the $1,400 tax refund.  The original return would have had a $900 refund if the amended return was not needed.

Thanks for the response.  That’s what I was thinking but wasn’t sure.

@mcm1995

The amount you already paid is listed on Form 1040-X and goes into the calculation.

it's your job to verify that is happening.
