Amending a filed return

I received two 1099 forms after I had already filed my return.  I had a total of $1840 between the two and the charge for taxes was $557.  Is 30.27% normal?  Seems high to me.  I paid because tomorrow is the deadline and I am not paying interest.  Can you feel my anger?

Do you have Social Security?

  • Check your Form 1040.
  • Compare the amounts on line 6b
  • Once you start paying tax on Social Security it can be 30+%
  • Each dollar on the 1099 is another amount added to taxable Social Security.

To JohnB5677

I am not claiming SS just yet.  I just turned 55.

My 1099 is just a weekend thing I do for extra income.
