I'm in the process of amending my 2020 return with an additional W2. During this process, I was asked again about the Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC). I did not receive the stimulus payments during 2020, but was eligible for and claimed the RRC during my initial tax return in February this year.
In response to the TurboTax question of whether or not payment was received, I indicated Yes. This immediately changed my additional W2 refund from $165 to owing $1635 -- which is the Recovery Rebate Credit of $1800 - $165. I assumed at this point that the software was interpreting my answer as a "double dip" on the stimulus during my tax return and was therefore requiring me to return what it saw as a duplicate stimulus payment. But that is not the case. I only received the Credit payout as part of my tax return.
So I changed the toggle to No and moved on. Then the next page showed that I'm eligible to receive the $1800 payment. My concern is that the software may now try to forward this on to the IRS for additional payment? This amendment is only for the additional W2 missing earlier this year. I don't need anything at all related to the RRC.
Sorry for the long-winded question. It seems to me that the right answer is No during this process, but I want to be sure and avoid any issues with the IRS. Any information is appreciated.

Because you received the $1800 as part of your refund, then you would answer Yes to the question about whether of not you have received it.
It is confusing in that case, because selecting Yes causes the following page to change from a $165 refund (which makes sense, based on the new W2) and instead shows that I would owe $1653 (or $1800 - $165). It's not clear to me why I would need to pay back the Recovery Rebate Credit amount as a result of filing an amendment.
I misread something there. Use the option that shows you owe $165.
