Amended Return

I amended my 2022 return for Hurricane Ian and now I am receiving a refund.  Do I also need to amend by 2023 return to include the refund from 2022?

Probably not.

To take the Federal Net Qualified Disaster Deduction, the deduction of the disaster is added to the standard deduction. Is that how you claimed it?

If yes, although Schedule A was part of the 2022 return, you are not considered as having Itemized Deductions. If you don't itemize, you don't worry about state refunds.

The reason is this- If you itemize, you claim state tax paid as a deduction (Schedule A lines 5d)

If you get some of that state tax back as a refund, some of the refund may be taxable.

If you took the disaster deduction the way it was offered in 2022 (without itemizing) you do not claim the state refund.
