Advance Denial

I’ve been using TurboTax for the past four years and I’ve always gotten the advance because I always meet the criteria well this year. I was just toggling around in the TurboTax product and it said I didn’t qualify for the advance and I meet all the qualifications now it could be because my state papers aren’t ready and I was just trying to see if I will get pre-approved so I might try again later, but if anybody else having this issue, even if you have state taxes or not?

Here are some reasons you may not qualify:

  • Expected federal refund amount was less than $500.
  • Your physical address was not in an eligible state (e.g., North Carolina, Connecticut, or Illinois residents are ineligible) or was a P.O. box or prison address.
  • You were filing certain ineligible IRS forms (e.g., Form 1040X, 1310, 4852, 4684, 4868, 1040SS, 1040PR, 8888, or 8862).
  • You did not report income on a Form W-2, 1099-R, or Schedule C.
  • You did not have or open a Credit Karma Money checking account
  • You had outstanding government debt (federal or state), such as for child support, past student loans, or tax liens, which could lead to an offset (garnishment) of your tax refund.
  • The lender could not verify your identity or information did not match IRS records exactly (e.g., name/SSN mismatch, incorrect dependent information, or an AGI mismatch from the prior year).
  • Issues with your Credit Karma account, security, or activity that prevented account opening or validation.
  • An incomplete application or failure to agree to all terms and conditions.
  • The lender's final evaluation determined it was too risky to issue the loan based on your financial history or other third-party information.

    What to do next:

    1. Check Your Email: The lender sent an email to the address associated with your TurboTax account explaining the exact reason for the denial. Check your spam or junk folder as well.
    2. Contact the Lender: If you need further assistance or clarification, you can contact the lender directly at the number provided in the denial email or by searching the TurboTax Support website for contact options.
    3. Review Your Return: Go back through your tax return to ensure all information is accurate and complete, especially your personal details and form types.
    4. Track Your Refund: Since the advance was denied, your full refund will be processed by the IRS normally (typically within 21 days of acceptance) and deposited into your designated bank account (likely your Credit Karma account). You can track its status using the Where's My Refund?
