Acceptance of Return

I filed my federal and state returns on February 21and anticipated a refund on both the state and federal returns. I received a notice from TurboTax that the federal return was accepted. I have not received the federal refund. When I logged on to the IRS, I was told that there was no record of my return. Is there a process for follow up or do I need to refile the return? (Incidentally, I received my site refund.)

If you have already filed, you do not re-file your return.

You might need to call the IRS since it's been more than 21 days.  Please contact https://www.irs.gov/help/telephone-assistance  or IRS.

It is also possible that you owed IRS and they took your refund to offset the debt.  I will suggest you contact the Treasury Offset Program at 800-304-3107 to find out.  If this does not apply to you , call the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service at 1-877-777-4778.

Here are the possible reasons when the offset is taken:

  • Past due child support;
  • Debts owed to a federal agency;
  • Unemployment debts owed to the state;
  • Past due federal student loans;
  • Unpaid state income tax.

I am having same situation.  I filed on 3/1.  Received state return but nothing from Federal.  When I go to IRS site there is no info on my refund.  I'm concerned that maybe Turbo Tax return didn't go through!

You would never have received the state tax refund if the federal tax return was not e-filed and Accepted by the IRS.
