1040x amended return - which forms need to be signed?

DO you need to sign both the amended 1040 form (showing adjusted income) and the 1040X forms? - I do not see any implicit instructions on this.

If you are filing an amended return (1040X), that is the form you will sign (the 1040X) and mail to the IRS. Also attach any additional Schedules and documents that are relevant to the amended filing.

Is the corrected 1040 sent with the 1040X? Or just 1040x ?

When I print my 1040X return, TT also prints out the orginal

1040. Do I send both forms in?

I have the exact question. It would seem sufficient to file just the 1040X along with schedule(s) and explanation reflecting why and how the return is being amended. On the other hand, the Turbo Tax recalculates the numbers on the original tax return to take into account the changes made by the 1040X and its associated schedules. So, unless an expert (which I am not) chimes in, in an exercise of caution, I'm going to mail the 1040X with attached schedules, and then also include the changed 1040 that now has updated numbers. As a comment, it is annoying for there to be ambiguity where it is so ez to make something clear (file just the 1040X, or file both the 1040X and the changed original 1040).

@Jacwins You can only sign for your wife if you have Power Of Attorney or some other written document proving that you have authorization to sign forms for her.

Depends on state law, but you should be allowed to sign for her, in her presence and under her direction. You don't need a power of attorney for that. Lots of people are physically unable to sign their name, this is not an unusual thing. Look up "amanuenis"

@Lashailove12 You only sign the Form 1040-X and if mailing the amended return, you only mail the Form 1040-X and any other forms or schedules which were changed because of the amending.  You do NOT send the Form 1040.
