What is Form 15400?
by TurboTax•15• Updated 4 months ago
Form 15400, the Clean Vehicle Seller Report, gives the IRS information about buyers and sellers of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. It includes information such as the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), battery capacity, date of sale, date placed in service, model year, sales price, and the maximum credit allowable to the taxpayer.
Sellers of clean vehicles are required to file Form 15400 with the IRS and give a copy to the buyer in order for a vehicle to be eligible for a clean vehicle tax credit. The credit is available to individuals and their businesses, and vehicles must be used for their own use within the United States.
If you didn’t get a copy of Form 15400, it could mean that your electric vehicle isn’t eligible for the credit.
Among the requirements:
- New vehicles must be assembled in North America.
- Used vehicles:
- Must cost less than $25,000.
- Must be at least 2 model years old.
Go to the IRS clean vehicles website for more info on the tax credit.
