Can I claim my pet?

No, most people can't claim their dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, horses, fish, or other animals considered pets.

If you have a guide dog or a service animal, you can claim the costs of buying, training, and keeping them healthy as a medical expense.

Animals used in business may be deductible as a business expense.
