How do I re-import my E*TRADE from Morgan Stanley Form 1099-B in TurboTax?

by TurboTax44 Updated 5 months ago

Some TurboTax customers who are also E*TRADE from Morgan Stanley account holders may have received incomplete or inaccurate data through their 1099-B import.

To ensure your return is not impacted, if you imported your Form 1099-B between February 17, 2024, and February 22, 2024, delete the form and re-import it if you see any errors flagged by the originally imported forms in TurboTax up through and including e-file.

We expect 1099-B import to be open again with E*TRADE from Morgan Stanley by Monday, February 26, 2024.

If you need to import your 1099-B again, follow these steps:

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. Go to Federal, then Wages & Income, and select I’ll choose what to work on
  3. Scroll down and in the Investments and Savings section, select Update next to Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other.
  4. In Your investment sales summary, select the trash can icon next to any E*TRADE accounts that were imported.
Note: You do not need to delete any forms that you manually entered. Delete only forms you imported from accounts using your E*TRADE sign-in credentials.
  5. Select Yes when asked if you are sure you want to delete.
  6. Repeat steps 1 through 3 to navigate back to Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other if you do not already see it.
  7. If you see Did you sell any of these investments in 2023?, select Yes. If you see Your investment summary, select Add more sales.
  8. Select Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds and Continue
  9. Type E*TRADE in the search box, select the appropriate financial institution (E*TRADE from Morgan Stanley), and choose Continue
  10. Enter Your E*TRADE credentials to sign in, and follow the remaining screens to re-import your 1099-B forms. If you made adjustments after your original import, you will need to re-enter those as well.
