CA state return
Hi,
I’m filing as Head of Household in California for the first time this year and had a question about timing my state return.
I’ve already submitted my federal tax return, and as part of that process I applied in person for an ITIN for my parent (whom I’m claiming as a dependent). However, I’m still waiting for the ITIN to be issued.
For my California state taxes, I’m expecting a refund and don’t owe anything. I’d prefer to wait until I receive the ITIN before filing my state tax.
questions:
- Is it okay to delay filing my CA state return until I receive the ITIN?
- Do I need to file a CA state extension form even if I don’t owe any taxes?
- Are there any risks or penalties I should be aware of when delaying a refund-only return?
Thanks in advance!
