if your children have an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) instead of a Social Security Number (SSN), they may qualify you for the $500 Credit for Other Dependents.
To claim the $500 credit for your children, the following conditions must be met:
- Identification: The child must have a valid ITIN, SSN, or ATIN assigned by the due date of your tax return (including extensions).
- Residency: The child must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or U.S. resident alien.
- Dependency: You must claim the child as a dependent on your tax return.
- Support: The child must not provide more than half of their own financial support for the year.
- Income Limit: Your modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) must be below the phase-out threshold, which is $200,000 for single filers or $400,000 for married couples filing jointly.
