Independent contractor

I received a notice from IRS in Nov 2020 regarding a 2018 tax return that stated the company I worked as an independent contractor submitted a 2nd 1099 stating that I made 17,000 more than I claimed on my taxes.  I actually made 5600.00. I was able to contact my previous employer and was told that ADP made an error with several employee and they were aware of the situation.  This discussion took place in Nov 2020 right after I received the notice of delinquent taxes and that I owed 4900 in back taxes.  The error has not been corrected yet and as a result my 2020 return is being held by IRS. Does the error in tax also apply for independent contractors where the company has 30 days to correct the error, and if they have not what can I do
