Self employed

If you are using TurboTax Home & Business, enter or edit your health insurance premiums for a plan considered as established under your business in Other Common Business Expenses which is under Business Expenses. If you need to update the amount, revisit that section. Entering amounts directly on the form is not recommended, and overriding an entry could affect your Accurate Calculation Guarantee.

Check to see if you aren't able to increase the amount because it would create a net loss. The health insurance paid is deducted from the net profit from the business. The deduction cannot exceed the earned income you collect from your business. For example, if your self-employment activity is a sole proprietorship that generated a tax loss for the year, you’re not allowed to claim the deduction because the business didn't generate any positive earned income.
