Resident in HI and physically worked in AL. 1099-NEC with no state withholding. Should I file a non-resident AL tax?
Hi, I have a question about non-resident tax return for freelance work physically conducted in the non-resident state. I thought I have to file a non-resident state return on my 1099-nec. But I don't understand the following questions that turbo tax asks. The following is the copy of the actual page:
------------------
- If you made money in only 1 other state and it’s one of the states listed here, select No, I didn’t make money in other state"
----------
In this section, "one of the states listed here" means the states shown in the dropdown menu?
The non-resident state (AL) I physically worked is one of the states in the dropdown menu. If so, I am considered that "I didn't make money in other state"? And meaning no non-resident state tax required?
When I look around on line , it seems like I am required to file a non-resident AL state for my work done in AL. Am I really need to choose "No, I didn't make money in other state." here?
I really appreciate any advice. Thanks,
